Understanding the Mind
Understanding the Mind
Mental well-being is a major concern in modern society. As many classical illnesses and infectious diseases fall under the control of modern medicine, the impact of diseases affecting the mind becomes more apparent. Approximately 10 - 20 % of people in developed countries suffer from anxiety, mood or personality disorders. These conditions profoundly affect the quality of life, not only of the patient, but also those around them.
Effective treatments of mental disorders require a sound understanding of the mind. Although this has been the subject of numerous inquiries throughout the history of humans, from the sages of ancient cultures to psycho-analysts of 19th century Europe, much remains obscure. In recent years, however, advances in neuroscience have brought us the possibility of new level of understanding, and hence treatment.
The purpose of this workshop is to bring together scientists from various fields including ethology, molecular neuroscience, genetics, medicine and computer science, who can advance our understanding of the mind.
The workshop is aimed at clinicians, scientists and students in neuroscience and psychology. To register, click here.
